Early the next morning, Charlotte heard bustling noises downstairs. When she looked out, she saw Joe with Ben and
Anna in the garden, engrossed in something.
“What are you guys doing?” Charlotte asked with a smile.
Excitedly, Anna waved her hand at her, “Mommy, Daddy is helping us plant trees!”
“Planting trees?” Charlotte grew even more curious and decided to walk down wearing her coat.
Joe held a shovel, his shirt sleeves rolled up to his elbows, revealing the smooth muscle lines of his forearms. In front of
him were two large pits, and standing beside him were Ben and Anna, each holding a small shovel and their faces
smeared with dirt.
Charlotte gently wiped the dirt off the faces of the two children and asked softly, “What kind of trees are you planting?”
