Chapter 418 418: Help her live it all again

Jessica blinked her eyes again, trying to adjust to the light. Her gaze was unfocused at first, wandering around the room, trying to make sense of her surroundings.

But the more she looked, the more she felt contradicting memories clashing through her brain.

Her gaze trailed over to Davis, but at one moment he felt familiar and at another unfamiliar.

She felt comfortable with him around as though it was a sight she longed to behold.

The next minute she felt repulsed because, searching through her memory, his face was unfamiliar with no record of conversation between them.

Jessica shook her head lightly as though that could fix everything going on in her head.

Davis leaned closer, his hand trembling as he brushed her cheek. "Babe, can you hear me?" he probed, his heart thudding in his chest at a fast pace.

As though she hadn't heard him, Jessica's gaze continually scanned the surroundings, her brows furrowed with confusion, her lips moved, a faint murmur escaping, but no clear words came.

"Ethan," Davis called, his voice anxious. "Get the doctor immediately."

At the sound of his voice, Jessica's eyes shifted toward him again until they found his, and a faint flicker of recognition shone briefly, but the next moment it dimmed.

Seeing that flicker of expression and how it faded, Davis felt his heart lurch with fear. Tears blurred his vision, but he didn't care.

"Babe… you…" His voice cracked, but his words paused as the door was pushed open from outside.

Davis's gaze shifted to the door, the Dean and her attending doctor came inside. Davis carefully stepped out of the way, letting them check on her.

After the doctors examined the essential indicators, a nurse was signaled and she brought forward a glass of warm water.

With the machines taken off her, the doctors sighed with relief.

Carefully, Jessica was helped to sit up on the bed, the pillow placed behind her to rest her back.

Davis took the glass from her hand and came forward to help Jessica drink, but she recoiled from him.

"Where's Richard?" Her voice came out as a whisper that Davis had to incline his head to her lips to hear her.

Davis's hand paused briefly, a bitter feeling swelling up his heart. "What's your own name?" she asked, snapping Davis out of his thoughts.

"W…hat…? D…on't…" he started.

Jessica rubbed her brow. "My recollection seems chaotic," she murmured, as though giving an explanation.

But the next word left Davis helpless. "Ask Richard to come over with the last quarter report and prepare for my discharge," she instructed weakly.

"Babe, you can't be discharged at the moment. You still have to be observed."
