Chapter 129

Inside the ward, Olivia stared, dumbfounded, at the trio blocking the doorway.

A silent exchange of glances passed between them, each hesitant to break the silence.

Stephanie’s voice cut through the tension, “Is Mrs. Blackwood really that important to him? I’ve made two trips already.”

“She is,” Elliot replied.

Stephanie really didn’t want to be here, especially since visiting the old woman’s room meant passing Olivia’s.

Seeing Chris, Tyler, and Catlin standing there like statues, as if struck by lightning, made her even more uncomfortable.

Stephanie glanced at Elliot, who returned the look. Finally, Stephanie said nothing, quickly brushing past them.

She couldn’t stand being in this cursed place any longer than necessary.

Once they were out of earshot, Stephanie asked Elliot,

“What was that all about? Did they see a ghost?”

Elliot chuckled, “No ghosts indoors, I guess they were just spooked.”

“Spooked by Olivia?” Stephanie asked.

Olivia was the only one in the room, and she was practically on her deathbed.

How could she scare anyone?

Elliot suggested, “Maybe they overheard something they shouldn’t have.”

The way they looked, they might have heard something earth–shattering.

Stephanie’s mind raced, recalling Olivia’s attempts to provoke her into leaving Long Harbor.

Looking back at Elliot, her eyes narrowed slightly.

Elliot asked, “Miss?”

Stephanie instructed, “Check into Olivia’s recent activities, see if she is hiding anything.”

Olivia’s sudden confrontation and those strange words made Stephanie suspicious that she was trying to cover something

up.

Elliot nodded, “Understood.”

They quickened their pace.

When they returned after visiting Mrs. Blackwood again, Olivia’s room door was closed, and the trio was gone.

Faint sounds drifted from inside.

“Miss, are you going to keep walking…”
