Dan Murry. The guy had short, neat hair. His thin lips always pressed tight. Those sharp, sparky eyes said more than he himself ever did.

He’d had this wild, cocky energy–so different from Sebastian’s cool chill–that he’d stuck in Stephanie’s head.

Stephanie had met him three times. The fourth was just word he was gone, a hit that smashed Sofia’s heart to pieces.

Sebastian shrugged, staring at the cup in his hands. “Maybe. Maybe not.”

Stephanie’s voice got quieter. “Finger crossed.”

She looked out the window, feeling for Sofia and everything she’d put into that guy.

Sebastian played with her slightly crossed fingers. “Cold?” he asked, a bit of concern slipping in.

“Nah, I’m good,” she said, shaking her head. The fireplace was doing its thing.

He knew she hated heavy layers in winter–liked her arms free–so her closet was packed with light, comfy stuff like this.

“I’m really not cold,” she muttered, glancing at the blanket.

“Just go with it,” he teased, his voice warm and easy.

Stephanie rolled her eyes but gave in, pulling it on for real.
