Chapter 128 The Husband

Stepping outside, Monica's stomach growled with an audible demand for sustenance. The clock had already struck 2 p.m., the usual time for lunch. Timothy, hearing the sound, couldn't help but chuckle. He playfully ruffled her hair, suggesting, "Let's get some food in you first."

Monica, bowing her head in agreement, pouted slightly. Unbeknownst to her, this simple gesture was surprisingly intimate.

The hospital continued to buzz with activity, people coming and going in a constant stream. As the day wore on, the light began to fade, and the sky was painted with the warm hues of the setting sun. However, within the confines of the VIP hospital room, a palpable tension was steadily thickening.

Kelvin, his face stiff with concern, demanded, "Why hasn't she woken up yet? Wasn't the anesthesia supposed to wear off by the afternoon?" It was now 6 p.m., and there wasn't a hint of Penelope regaining consciousness.

"Mr. Davis, please remain calm. I'll check her over," the doctor reassured, proceeding to monitor her vital signs. After a thorough examination, everything appeared to be normal. Yet, Kelvin, unimpressed, watched the doctor's every move closely.

"Mr. Davis," the doctor finally spoke, "it could be that Mrs. Davis doesn't want to wake up. This prolonged unconsciousness might mean she's refusing to face something in the real world, so she's chosen to keep sleeping."

Kelvin crossed his arms, deep in thought. "What can we do?"

The doctor hesitated before suggesting, "Well... we could wait some more, or we could try to provoke a response by using something that holds great importance to her to signal that it's time for her to wake up."

Impatient, Kelvin nodded dismissively and gestured for everyone to leave the room. Once again, silence engulfed the space. The waning sun's glow streamed through the window, casting a golden light on the floor, offering a semblance of peaceful normality. Penelope lay there, her eyes closed, seemingly in deep slumber, not a single twitch of life. Just lying there, motionless. "Are you trying to punish me in your own way?" Kelvin questioned, speaking to her as though she could hear, "Is that it?"

"I said I'd love you in my way, is this how you're responding?" He moved to the bedside and gently brushed away the hair from her forehead. "You can run from reality temporarily, but not forever," Kelvin whispered ominously, leaning in close to her ear. "Penelope, if you don't wake up, I'll start with those close to you... one by one."

Her eyes fluttered slightly. It was an effective tactic. She always had a thing for tough love. In an effort to rouse her quickly, Kelvin persisted, "Open your eyes, Penelope. Don't go back to sleep."
