chapter135 Kelvin Grabs the Knife Barehanded

Penelope's words were laced with such ferocity that her hands trembled uncontrollably. The blade she held danced perilously close to her skin, leaving a slender cut along her neck. The wound wasn't deep, but it was enough to break the skin, allowing blood to slowly seep out. The sight of Penelope's self-inflicted injury pained Kelvin far more than if the blade had been turned on him. In that instant, he realized that she had succeeded in punishing him.

"Okay, okay, it's my fault," Kelvin blurted out, his voice laced with desperation. He was frantic to get her to drop the knife. "Everything is on me; you're innocent. Penelope, don't do anything stupid!"

As he looked into her eyes, he saw a fear and helplessness that couldn't be feigned. It was then that he realized the truth - he had developed feelings for her. But when had this happened? She hadn't noticed it at all.

"Whatever it is, we can talk this out. I'll agree to anything," Kelvin urged, his gaze unwaveringly fixed on her. "Whatever you want, it's yours!"

"I want my child. I want it to survive. Can you do that?" Penelope's voice was filled with a desperate hope.

Kelvin fell silent. Resurrection... that was impossible.

Penelope laughed then, a laugh-filled with desolation. "I never imagined I would use my death to threaten and punish you. I never believed you when you said you loved me."

"I've been backing down, only wishing for my child's life, such a simple and humble wish, and yet you sought to destroy it with your own hands. Kelvin, I will never forgive you, never!"

"You have your way of loving me, and I have my way of trampling on your love! If I killed you, the Davis family would just put me behind bars, a murderer. But if I die..."

Tears started to fall from Penelope's eyes as she spoke.

"You'll never have me, your love will be unrequited forever, and there will never be another Penelope in this world... You'll remember me forever, unable to forget or let go..."
