“Adah, you forgot your cash!” Daly instructed the maid to deliver the money.

Adah glanced back with defiance, swearing for the first time. “We don’t need your stinking. money! Consider this cash as a head start on your funeral expenses!”

Daly couldn’t help but burst into laughter, clapping his hands. “Well said! That’s some spine!”

If the Christensens had swallowed their pride and shown a bit of humility, Daly might have been moved to mercy when they found themselves homeless, wandering the streets with no place to call their own.
