Chapter 277

After getting off the plane, Breanna found herself waiting at the exit for Allison to pick her up. The chilly breeze nipped at her as she stood there for what felt like an eternity-half an hour and still no sign of Allison. Finally, she pulled out her phone to give Allison a call.

To her surprise, a cold, automated voice informed her that the number she dialed was no longer in service. How could the number just go dead like that? They had just talked an hour ago! This didn't sit right with Breanna. Could something have happened to Allison?

Unable to reach her by phone, she quickly switched tactics and tried a video call through her messaging app. The call rang out and eventually disconnected on its own. Breanna tried five more times, each time growing more anxious as the silence persisted.

Earlier, Ms. Allison had mentioned she was about twenty minutes from the airport, but now forty minutes had passed. No sign of her. No calls answered. No video messages acknowledged. Breanna was alone in Oak Lake with no one to turn to except Allison.

In a moment of clarity, Breanna remembered that Allison had once mentioned her law firm's name and had even sent her the address in a text. Owens Legal Services. Without wasting a second, Breanna jumped online to search for the firm and quickly found their information, including the office's landline number.

She dialed, but the phone just rang and rang. In her panic, Breanna had forgotten it was after business hours and the office would be empty. That call was a dead end.

Breanna decided to involve the police. They acted quickly, contacting Allison's family to see if she was truly missing.
