The gunshot echoed like a thunderclap across the sky.

The locals nearby barely flinched, chalking it up to yet another film crew using the old abandoned building for a shoot. Little did they know, the real drama unfolding inside was more gripping than any script.

Just ten minutes earlier, Joshua had arrived at the base of the building right on time. Making his way up to the twenty-sixth floor, he was confronted with a scene that turned his stomach.

Allison was a mess, covered in blood, her face a patchwork of bruises. Chris had her by the throat, her feet dangling helplessly in the air. Her face was flushed from lack of air, and just below her was the building's jagged, unprotected edge. One slip and she'd plummet straight down.

Joshua, usually so composed, felt his heart twist and his breath catch in his throat.

Chris tightened his grip, his eyes shifting to Joshua with a smirk. "You made it?"

Joshua could taste blood, his throat tight with fear. He forced his voice to stay calm, "Let her go."

"Protective, are we?" Chris sneered, his grip unwavering.

Watching Allison struggle, her face growing paler by the second, Joshua felt like he was being torn apart. Every nerve screamed in agony.

"I came alone, just like you wanted," Joshua rasped, his voice cracking. "Now let her go."

Chris chuckled, glancing casually at Allison. She was barely hanging on, her skin turning an alarming shade of purple. With a dismissive flick, Chris shifted his grip and tossed her further inside, like she was nothing more than garbage.
