As Joshua drew Allison into a protective hug, the liquid splashed onto the potted plant behind her. The plant started to wither away almost instantly. Acid. Allison's face went as white as a sheet. If Joshua hadn't yanked her out of the way, that acid would have hit her face. The thought made her shiver.

Standing across from her was a man with glasses, glaring at her with such intense hatred, you'd think she was his worst enemy. His eyes burned with a desire to see her suffer.

"You homewrecker! You knew he was with someone else, yet you still messed things up for our Kate, getting her banned. Go to hell!" he spat venomously.

Oh, great. Just another one of Kate's overzealous fans and a total sycophant.

Joshua's bodyguards had already restrained the glasses guy, holding his arms back, but he kept spewing insults. Joshua's expression darkened as he delivered a swift kick to the man's gut. "Shut it!"

The kick was no joke. The guy's face turned ghostly, and he doubled over, wailing

in pain.

Joshua turned to Allison, his eyes filled with worry. "Allie, you alright?"

Allison snapped out of her daze, the adrenaline fading, leaving a chill of fear. Her face was still pale as she said, "Call the cops."

The police arrived swiftly and hauled the glasses guy away.

Joshua lingered at the law firm, shadowing Allison, his concern evident as he repeatedly made sure she hadn't been splashed. The acid, being thick, hadn't scattered. It all hit the plant, and Joshua checked several times, still uneasy.
