Joshua's hand slid down, resting gently on Allison's delicate neck.

He leaned in closer, their breaths mingling in the small space between them. His voice was low and a little rough. "What is it I don't want?"

"You know exactly what," Allison whispered.

Joshua tilted her chin up, making her look straight into his deep, unreadable eyes.

"I want to hear you say it."

His gaze felt endless, like he could pull her right in.

Allison bit her lip. "You don't want to worry that I'll fall for someone else."

A smile softened Joshua's usually serious face.

"And have you ever worried I'd fall for someone else?" he asked quietly.

She had-especially when Carolyn had just come back. But Allison shook her head, pretending to be calm. "Nope."

Joshua's long fingers gently pinched her cheeks, making little dimples.

"Try again. I don't like that answer."
