"Testing you?'Jesse muttered under his breath, stunned.
Nashon stood up, walked next to the window, and looked at the garden for a while.
"None of the Islanders are simple. Often, we have to make costly sacrifices if we want to gain their trust. Shingen must be very suspicious of US offering him a marriage. He thinks we're up to some schemes or this is in preparation for something else.
"Meanwhile, the Shinto Way requires the help of our family to enter our country. However, he needs to be on his guard in case we're up to no good. That's why we had this performance today.
"If I'm someone who values family ties, then he will be sure I won't betray my country for some benefits. But if all I care about is profit and care little for family, it will make me the best partner for him. That's why I'm saying that instead of confirming the date of marriage, he's here to decide if he wants to work with us."

Nashon explained all his conjectures one by one, and it was enough to stop Jesse in his tracks. It was obvious Jesse didn't expect someone quick to anger like Shingen would have so many hidden agendas.
"Looks like I've underestimated them far too much in the past,"
Jesse concluded.
"The Islanders have always been quite the invasive force from times immemorial," Nashon said. "It's just that depending on the era, they do or do not need to hide their ambitions. Fortunately, they need to keep their ambition in check during this era. That's why Shingen has been doing all these things that can be quite hard to discern.
"After this, however. Shingen would believe that our family truly wants to cooperate with them. We have made the right move this time."
Jesse then frowned and said, "But.... Is it worth it to sacrifice Yvonne just to make this move?'
Nashon glanced at Jesse. "Have I ever said I wanted to sacrifice her? Grow up. You're underestimating me if you think I'm doing this just to deceive some Islanders. Find a way to inform Harvey what happened here today at the most opportune time.
"Let him know that he needs to explain himself for keeping one of ours by his side without giving her the appropriate status. Since they didn't want to explain themselves thus far... I will make them give US an explanation!"
Jesse could sense some resentment in Nashon's words. He wanted to say something, but stopped in the final moment.
