Caroline slowly opened her eyes.

The car was already parked in Ellison Residence’s garden. The moment she took in her surroundings, dizziness hit her like a wave. The world seemed to spin.

She pushed herself out of the car, gripping the door for balance. But the moment she took a step, nausea overwhelmed her. Clutching the door with one hand and pressing the other against her chest, she bent over and vomited.

That reckless driving–how could anyone endure it?

She retched until there was nothing left, her body drained, her mouth coated with a bitter, burning aftertaste. It took a long moment before the nausea subsided, leaving her weak, shaky, and utterly drained.

David stood a few feet away, leaning lazily against the hood of the car, arms crossed, his expression unreadable.

Caroline inhaled deeply, her legs feeling like they could give out at any moment. She wanted to head inside, but even walking felt like too much effort.

Instead, she glared at him.

“That’s all it took to wear you down?” His voice was calm, almost amused. “Your tolerance is pathetic.”

“What the hell is wrong with you?” She snapped.

“Just a drive,” he said smoothly. “I thought you’d enjoy it.”

She let out a sharp laugh. “Well, thanks, but no thanks.”

Grabbing a water bottle from the car, she rinsed her mouth, fighting the overwhelming urge to spit the water right at him.

For a split second, she really considered spitting the water right at him.

She wanted to.

Badly.

But she held back.
