Chapter 525

She was lost in her own world of grief, not even aware of how long she'd been crying until she finally stepped out of the hospital with swollen eyes. The sunlight hit her, and for a moment, it was blinding.

Leaning against the wall, she shuffled along without really knowing how far she had gone until she reached the old Welton family mansion. A black cloth, a symbol of mourning, draped over the door. That's when it hit her-Casper was truly gone. He had passed away in a foreign land, reduced to ashes, never to see her again.

Clutching her abdomen, she kept telling herself to hold it together. Her steps were unsteady as she pushed open the mansion's door, feeling hollow inside. A servant spotted her and rushed over to keep her from collapsing.

Caroline's wedding was just around the corner. But with Casper's sudden passing, the wedding was off. She decided she'd go to Africa herself to bring back her brother's ashes.

"Can I go with you?" she pleaded, gripping Caroline's arm, tears welling up in her eyes. "I want to see him, one last time."

"Of course, we'll go together," Caroline replied, her voice laced with sadness. They held each other and cried.

A few days later, Eliza and Caroline found themselves in Africa. Dillon was there to meet them at the airport, his face somber, his black suit a poor disguise for his grief. They traveled in silence, the air heavy with sorrow. When they arrived, Dillon led them to a room. On a table against the wall lay a white urn covered with a red cloth. Eliza's eyes widened, the exhaustion from sleepless nights catching up with her. Overwhelmed, she fainted. "Eliza," Caroline said urgently, catching her before guiding her to rest.
