Chapter 272

The hallway outside.

Gordon stood at the door of the hospital ward, eyeing the two rows of guards standing in the corridor. Their uniform stance and stoic expressions, not to mention the intimidating aura they exuded, sent chills down his spine.

The door opened, military boots hitting the floor with a cold, crisp sound.

Bennett stepped out, adjusting his military cap and maintaining a stone–faced expression. Years of military discipline had taught him to mask his emotions in the presence of strangers.

“Salute!” The guards snapped to attention, saluting him.

“Let’s go.”

With a nonchalant command, Bennett swept past Gordon, followed by the guards.

The hallway fell silent once more.

Gordon watched Bennett’s retreating figure. His handsome and stern profile, his powerful and masculine charm, and his unpretentious demeanor had him, a grown man, utterly captivated.

He was faced with the stark reality of the chasm that existed between individuals.

Just as he was lost in his thoughts, Thaddeus emerged, walking with heavy steps and a shadowed look in his eyes

“Thaddeus, you shouldn’t push yourself. Given your current condition, you really shouldn’t leave the hospital prematurely!”

Gordon rushed over to support Thaddeus, only to be stubbornly pushed away. “I cannot. If I don’t return to the corporation, Frederic and Elspeth will become suspicious. They’ll use any excuse to undermine my authority. My hospitalization and injury must not be…”

Overcome by the stress and frustration of arguing with Bennett, Thaddeus, who had been holding back, finally broke into a fit of coughing.

The hollow sound echoed from his chest, sending fear and panic through Gordon. His heart ached at the sight, his eyes welling up with tears.

“Thaddeus, the corporation, the presidency, none of that is as important as your health!”

“Don’t worry, I won’t die. I’ve been through countless battles and injuries over the years. I’m still here, aren’t I?”

Thaddeus straightened up, taking a deep breath.

When he recalled Bennett’s harsh words about him disgracing the military, his eyes reddened slightly.

How unfair.

That evening, Evadne had booked a luxury suite at K Orld Hotel, preparing a feast of fine wine and food for Bennett.

Arnold, Aaron, and Nydia, who were all working and studying in Elmsworth, all rushed over. Siblings gathering together was always a joyful occasion, and the, atmosphere was incredibly lively.

Unfortunately, they had to say goodbye to Bennett as soon as they had welcomed him. Everyone was filled with regret at his departure, and Evadne couldn’t help, but tear up, drowning her sorrows in several glasses of wine.

Her emotions were a mix of happiness and frustration. Why did Thaddeus like her?

Was it because of the shared hardship they experienced on Misty Mountain, or did he feel some strange guilt after learning that she was the little girl he had saved thirteen years ago?
