Lucas inhaled deeply, saying nothing. After a moment, he reluctantly accepted the situation, his face still clouded with irritation. He slid out of bed, put on his slippers, and strode toward the door.

With a quick twist of the knob, he yanked the door open, his voice sharp with annoyance. “What do you want?”

His tone was biting, his demeanor unmistakably hostile.

Margie stood outside the door, visibly startled by Lucas’ harsh words and stormy expression. She flinched slightly but quickly held out her phone, saying, “Mr. Clark, it’s your sister. She says it’s urgent.”
