Chapter 346 Meeting The King

Samson didn't miss a beat in his response, “No problem.”

Vananeru then arranged a meeting point and ended the call.

Jonathan, who did not understand Thymionan, asked Vananeru, “How did it go?”

Vananeru replied, “Uncle Samson says that he needs to have the observation team investigate you before taking you to meet the King, as this is a matter of high importance.”

Jonathan frowned and said, “I'll contact someone in Chanaea and get them to verify my identity.”

Vananeru's eyes lit up at that. “That might speed things up.”

Jonathan promptly contacted Jeff, who quickly got to work.

Within half an hour, everything was settled.

Jonathan and Vananeru met up with Samson, who verified Jonathan's identity and then led him to meet the King.

The King and the Prime Minister of Thymion viewed the case of the cacodemon becoming Wretched as highly important.

At three in the afternoon, the sun shone so brightly that it created heat waves in the air. Many female travelers were tempted to take off their clothes and only cover their important parts due to the intense heat.

The Grand Palace, with its unique blend of Chanaean and Thymionan architecture, had a lavish appearance that often left a strong first impression on visitors.

Although the royal family used to live there, King Soma had since moved to Pistola Palace on the east side of the palace complex, leaving the Grand Palace open to the public as a tourist attraction.

Upon arriving at Pistola Palace, Jonathan was thoroughly scanned by security guards before he was allowed to enter.

He and Vananeru were then escorted to the reception room, where they met the elderly and frail-looking king seated atop his throne, accompanied by a professional secretary, medics, and several officials.

As a gesture of respect, Jonathan and Vananeru immediately bowed upon meeting the King, who had earned the respect and admiration of his people for his contributions to the prosperity and stability of Thymion.

The King had since removed himself from worldly affairs at his age. However, the case of the cacodemon becoming Wretched was not to be taken lightly. He knew it would leave a political stain on him and become a disaster for his people if he didn't handle things well enough.

After all, there was nothing scarier than the prospect of losing one's good name due to past misdeeds or mistakes in life.

The King had a translator by his side. “Esteemed guest from Chanaea, thank you so much for coming,” the King greeted in Thymionan.

His translator immediately translated his greetings for Jonathan.

Jonathan put his hands together and bowed slightly. “My pleasure, Your Majesty. I hope I'd be useful to your country. I'll do my best.”

The King nodded. “Regardless, I thank you on behalf of Thymion.”

They briefly exchanged pleasantries before the King abruptly changed the topic. “I heard you and Ms. Vananeru were at the Celestial Sky Monastery when it happened. What exactly happened there?”

Jonathan didn't want the Thymion police to look for him because it was difficult to explain everything to ordinary cops and would waste a lot of time.

But now, his message could be simplified and made clear since he had reached the higher-ups.

Jonathan replied, “Ms. Vananeru and I were indeed there when it happened. The cacodemon was the cause of it all. He calls himself Wretched the Great now. Your Majesty, I'm here today to learn more about Wretched the Great from you. Only then can I propose a solution to this problem. What do you think?”

The King's expression turned grim upon his words. “Wretched the Great. Are you sure about that?”

Jonathan caught on when he heard the King's tone. He must have known who Wretched the Great is. He replied, “I'm sure.”

The King's face darkened. “I've only heard about Wretched the Great from the elderly. At first, I thought he was just a baseless myth, but who would have thought he actually exists.” He paused and continued, “I don't really know where Wretched the Great came from, but I can get some elders over to understand the situation. This will take some time. Please be patient, my esteemed guest.”

Jonathan nodded. “Sure.”

The King then instructed his secretary. “Check out everything about Wretched the Great. I want you to put this as your priority.”

His secretary replied, “Yes, Your Majesty.”

After his secretary left, the King turned to Vananeru and asked, “Ms. Vananeru, how is your father doing?”

Tears welled up in Vananeru's eyes as she replied, “Your Majesty, he has been captured by Wretched. Please, you have to save him.”

In the eyes of Vananeru and the people of Thymion, the King was a powerful and formidable figure who could do anything.

The King was taken aback by the news. Even the Holy Master has been captured by Wretched?

The gravity of the situation dawned on him once again. “All the monks were killed when Celestial Sky Monastery was destroyed.” He turned to face Jonathan and Vananeru. “You two were there as well. How are you still alive? My esteemed guest, I heard that you're quite close with Wretched. You even sneaked into Thymion in the past to save him, right?”

Jonathan's heart sank as he couldn't lie to the King. He nodded and replied, “Yes, Your Majesty.”

The King's face darkened. “Esteemed Guest, can you give me an explanation?”

Jonathan explained, “Back then, the cacodemon wasn't Wretched the Great yet. It saved my life once. I witnessed its birth, and it drank my blood while growing up. I have feelings for the cacodemon. Moreover, it didn't do anything wrong back then. That's why I wanted to save it.” He paused and continued, “Now that it has regained its memory and has become Wretched the Great, it won't listen to me. So, I must stop it from killing the innocent at all costs. I can assure you, Your Majesty, that I'm telling you the truth.”

The King listened quietly. He is an extremely formidable man shaped by the ups and downs of life.

He knew that Jonathan came from Chanaea and was closely related to the officials there, so there was no point in pursuing Jonathan's past at this point.

Instead, he viewed their relationship as a potential opportunity to tackle the crisis at hand.

“I believe you, Esteemed Guest,” the King declared. “However, the case of the cacodemon turned Wretched concerns the safety and well-being of my country. I hope you will do everything in your power to stop Wretched.”

“Of course,” Jonathan readily agreed.

Their conversation ended there and then, and the King didn't say anything more.

Thymion had already begun making the necessary arrangements to defeat Wretched, but the King kept this information to himself.

He saw Jonathan as a chance to gain an advantage and didn't see any harm in doing so.

After reassuring Vananeru that everything would be okay, he arranged for Jonathan and Vananeru to spend the night at a hotel and treated them like VIPs.

“We will let you know immediately the moment we receive news of Wretched the Great,” the King promised.

Jonathan nodded, bid farewell to the King, and left with Vananeru.

The Grand Palace hotel, arranged by the King, was a luxurious hotel with a garden-themed setting. While it did not have the official classification of a five-star hotel due to its size, it was a serene and refined place to stay, akin to a private villa.

Jonathan and Vananeru stayed in neighboring rooms.

However, Vananeru couldn't bear to stay alone in her room, so she went to Jonathan's room.

Jonathan had her sit down and poured her a cup of lukewarm coffee as he knew she was worried.

“Are we going to wait for the news here?” Vananeru asked Jonathan.

“Do we have a better idea?” Jonathan replied.

“How do you think my father is coping? Will Wretched humiliate him?” Vananeru asked, worried.

Jonathan didn't feel any pity for Galad and knew that Wretched would undoubtedly humiliate him.
