Chapter 26

On our daughter’s kindergarten activity day, my husband Antonio Kaufman said he had to skip it because of work.

He even forbade me and our daughter Leah to go there.

I could tell Leah was really disappointed, so I decided to take her there myself.

But then, we found Antonio right at the kindergarten.

He was holding hands with Sophia Ross, his childhood sweetheart, a little boy in his arm. Together, they looked like a picture–perfect family.

It wasn’t until he spotted Leah and me that he frowned slightly and let go of Sophia’s hand.

“Grace, don’t get the wrong idea. It’s not easy for Sophia to be a single mother. Today’s her son’s fifth birthday, and he wants to feel some fatherly love,” Antonio explained.

I forced a smile, took Leah’s hand, and told her, “Sweetie, this is your uncle.”

Seeing this, Sophia quickly took her son from Antonio’s arms, looking apologetic. “Please don’t be mad. Antonio is trying to be kind.

“You know, my son has never had a dad.

“Today is his fifth birthday, so he wants a dad to be with him.”
