Chapter 410

ShadowFox rubbed his nose, sneaking a side glance at Elian Ashcroft.

This Miranda Lancaster had a personality pretty similar to the infamous Mr. Ashcroft, didn't she?

Elian, for his part, looked like he was in a great mood-there was a little smirk playing on his lips the whole time.

"Her needles aren't just ordinary needles. You brought her into your department, so you really shouldn't underestimate her," he said, almost lazily. "She keeps a low profile, sure, but don't kid yourself-she's no pushover."

Elian's eyes narrowed with amusement. "All your people here are top-tier, but each one's got their own specialty, right? Did you ever stop and think about what kind of person Miranda is? You really think she survived this long, with the entire criminal underworld after her, just because the military's got her back?"

The words hit ShadowFox like a bucket of ice water.

"I never underestimated her," ShadowFox muttered. "Otherwise, I wouldn't have brought her in. But honestly, you're right. Both sides of the law have bounties out for her, and the military can't really protect her. Besides, she was already a legend in the underground before the military even noticed she existed."

ShadowFox squinted at the surveillance monitors, cigarette burning down to the filter between his fingers, eyes locked on the live feed.

Elian just chuckled, still watching the screen.

Miranda's confidence was rubbing everyone in the room the wrong way.

"If you hadn't sucker-punched me, you wouldn't have won!" The tall man who'd started the fight barked, still fuming.

Miranda shot him a look. "Weren't you all planning to jump me first?"

The guy shut up fast.

Everyone else looked a little sheepish, faces flushed.

Yeah, they'd been the ones to make the first move. They just hadn't expected to get ambushed themselves.
