Luke stepped forward again, but the wall was behind me this time, and I had nowhere to go. My heart started to race as he closed the distance, his tall frame looming over me. The kitchen suddenly felt much smaller, his presence overwhelming me. "Luke, what are you doing?" I whispered, my voice trembling slightly. I wasn't sure if it was fear or something else entirely. He was so close, his body heat mingling with mine, and I could smell his cologne, he smelled like... Luke. It made my head spin. Luke's eyes bore into mine, his jaw still clenched. "Making sure you're safe," he said, his voice low and rough.

The space between us seemed to crackle with electricity. I was painfully aware of how close he was, his chest almost brushing against mine. My breath hitched. Tom's touch had felt wrong, but Luke's proximity was something else entirely. It made my pulse quicken and my "Safe?" I echoed, trying to sound sarcastic but failing.
