Laughter rang through the house, the kind that settled deep in your chest and stayed there. The kind of laughter I never thought I’d get to hear again.

I stood in the doorway, watching as Luke and Jess maneuvered boxes from the U–Haul, bickering about who was carrying the heavier load. Josh was helping too, but knowing him, he’d take any excuse to slack off and tease them instead.
