The story follows Choi Hyunseong, a 27-year-old man whose life has fallen into despair. Once an ordinary university student, Hyunseong's world was turned upside down when his father was diagnosed with an incurable disease known as Magic Reflux — a side effect of the Dimensional Gate opening nearly two decades ago.

The appearance of the gate brought magic and monsters into the human world, along with a new class of super-powered beings called Players. While many see the rise of Players as a blessing and a path to unimaginable wealth, for Hyunseong’s family, it became a curse.

With his father requiring expensive inhibitors made from rare manastones to survive, Hyunseong’s family is trapped in poverty. His mother works two jobs, his sister gave up her marriage fund, and Hyunseong dropped out of college to do hard labor at construction sites. Despite their efforts, the money was never enough.

Exhausted, hopeless, and stuck in a cycle of suffering, Hyunseong dreams of one impossible thing: becoming a Player. Players are people who possess superhuman powers — they can crush rocks with bare hands, jump over buildings, and manipulate fire and ice. But the process of becoming one is mysterious and seemingly random, like winning the lottery.

Just as he prepares to sleep, worn out from another hard day, a blinding light envelops his body — the sign that everything is about to change.

Hyunseong becomes a Level 1 Player.
