Chapter 828: Poisoned

The lead officer's expression softened slightly, feeling that the man's reasoning made sense. He unfastened the keys from his belt and prepared to move forward.

Just as he took a step, a junior officer behind him grabbed his arm. "Do you really believe them? This guy's a dangerous criminal. What if he uses this chance to escape? Who would we answer to then?" The detained prisoners scoffed at the hesitation. "Even if he's a dangerous criminal, he still has human rights, doesn't he? Besides, with so many officers here, do you really think he can escape from a police station?" The idea of escaping from this facility was laughable. With guards stationed everywhere, it would be nothing short of a fool's dream.

The lead officer shrugged off his colleague's hand. "They're right. Precisely because he's a dangerous criminal, we need to handle this carefully. If he dies, some cases might lose their only witness." "But wait a second-"

The junior officer tried to interject, but his colleague had already moved forward to unlock the cell door. Panic flashed briefly in his eyes, and he stomped his foot in frustration before hurriedly chasing after him. The officer unlocking the door approached Phil Walker and tried to rouse him. "Hey, wake up! Wake up!"

"I told you, he's just asleep," the junior officer muttered, unconvinced. But when Phil Walker remained unresponsive no matter how loudly they called, the junior officer began to feel uneasy. Fearing that they might be exposed, he instinctively reached out to pull his colleague away.

Before his hand could make contact, Kim Murphy abruptly stood up. His formerly calm demeanor turned to alarm. "Call an ambulance! Someone's been poisoned! Hurry, call an ambulance!"

In the hospital hallway outside the operating room, Hayden stood with Tina and Jared, all of them clearly unsettled after being woken in the middle of the night. Across from them stood Thompson Lewis, the weary and visibly stressed police chief.

Phil Walker had been a key piece in their strategy to infiltrate the hidden family. Jared had already coordinated with the police department, ensuring that they would be informed immediately if anything happened to him.

They had assumed that Victor, true to his nature, would only act after the Luke Gill case had concluded and he'd run out of options. But it hadn't even been a day, and something had already gone wrong. Jared's face was clouded as he asked coldly, "What happened?"

sweat off his forehead, utterly tongue-tied under Jared's intense questioning. He was just as baffled. How could such an incident occur under his watch? It would make him look incompetent to his superiors. Wiping his sweat on his sleeve, he turned sharply
