Parker scoffed with a jealous snort, striding out the door. "Flirting again, huh? Give it a rest! You two are so obvious, it's embarrassing. I'm outta here-Whitney, you won't die just because you're stuck in that wheelchair!"

Whitney just stared after him, speechless.

Flirting? As if! If anyone was being shameless, it was Ludwik.

"Hey, Parker—” she started, but Ludwik was already grinning lazily, looking way too pleased with himself. "He should've left ages ago. How long did he plan to play third wheel? Whitney, come on, let's chat a little more. You can push me back to my room in a bit."

He reached for her hand, but Whitney yanked it away instantly.

Her cheeks burned. "Who's your nurse? Ludwik, why don't you go be a creep somewhere else? You're perfectly capable-roll yourself back."

He just smirked, all gentlemanly but with that dangerous glint in his eyes. "I'm perfectly healthy. But I could play the bad guy, if that's what you want."

Whitney shivered, pushing his wheelchair away. "You better hope the cops don't lock you up for being a creep."

Sammy, their little one, was catching on to Dad's real motives. "Dad, you're so extra. You said you came to see my baby sister, but you only held her for like two seconds then you spent the whole time gossiping with Mom. You're totally using her as an excuse! If I'd known, I wouldn't have helped you. Mom's already annoyed with you."

Ludwik glared at his two little "sidekicks." He'd thought they were on his team, but apparently, they were just as likely to switch sides at a moment's notice.
