Chapter 610:

Susanna felt a pang of disappointment at her mother’s seeming hesitance to tend to her needs. When Joanna was hospitalized, her parents were constantly at her bedside. Susanna had always expected the same from her own parents.

Matteo sensed that Kayla’s words might upset Susanna. Shouldn’t a mother naturally want to be there for her sick child?

Was her mom still primarily focused on Nancy? Susanna clenched her fists to control her frustration and managed a smile. “Thank you, Mom.”

“Don’t worry, sweetheart. Remember, don’t stress yourself out,” Kayla comforted her, tucking her into bed. “I’m here for you. Get some rest.”
