Unbeknownst to Norah, Korbin was making these plans while she continued to suppress her frustration. Sean hadn’t messaged her since her shift ended, leading her to wonder if he intended to prolong their disagreement. She texted him that she’d stay in the dormitory tonight, preferring the company there to the solitude of a hotel room, where she’d rather be with Gemma.

She put her phone away and lifted her eyes to see a girl at the hospital entrance. The girl, clad in a bright, flowing dress, peered inside, seemingly waiting for someone. When she spotted Norah, she jumped and waved enthusiastically.
