“Stop the car!” Ellie suddenly shouted while Alex was on the phone with Haley. Alex braked instinctively.

Before Alex could say anything, Ellie quickly unfastened her seatbelt, jumped out, and ran toward the neighborhood without looking back.

Once inside the neighborhood, Ellie watched from afar as Alex’s car turned around and sped off as if he was racing to reach Haley instantly.

Her heart felt like it was being pricked by needles, a sharp pain. Ellie’s eyes turned red, and she took deep breaths to calm herself.

Fortunately, she heard it was Haley’s call and got out of the car in advance. Otherwise, she would have been kicked out by Alex again like the last two times.

With blurry vision, Ellie watched the direction where Alex’s car was leaving, then turned and walked back to her apartment building-
