Ellie’s eyes briefly met Alex’s, but she quickly turned her gaze away, her expression neutral.

No matter how bad a man was, once he fell in love with a woman, he would unknowingly change for her, whether for the better or worse.

To be with Haley, Alex had lowered his pride and pursued her. Now that Haley was the one initiating the breakup, he refused her so firmly, his face contorted with pain.

When Haley saw Nancy approach with a dark expression, she forced herself to speak. “Mrs. Warren, please have a seat.”

Nancy turned her head, casting Alex a scathing glare before she addressed Haley, her voice cold. “Stop putting on an act in front of me. I know you wish nothing more than for me to drop dead.”

“No, Mrs. Warren, by the time I started seeing Alex, I had already broken up with Aaron,” Haley quickly explained, glancing at Ellie, her eyes filled with bitterness.
