Late at night, inside the private room of a bar that Alex frequently visits. Layton walked in and found Alex lying motionless on the sofa.

He reached out and checked Alex’s breath. Alex, with his eyes closed, disdainfully pushed Layton’s hand away.

“So, you’re still awake,” Layton said, relieved when he saw that Alex was okay. He sat down across from him.

“I thought you were supposed to keep dyeing your hair until you’re over sixty, but why is it back to its original color now?” Layton, used to Alex’s cutting–edge fashion sense, couldn’t help but feel that Alex’s all–black casual suit didn’t look right, no matter how he viewed it.

Alex sluggishly sat up from the sofa, his whole demeanor exuding the most extreme level of exhaustion. His eyes were bloodshot and dull, his gaze lifeless. Without a word, he opened every bottle of alcohol on the coffee table.

“Are you really that affected?” Layton’s brain briefly short–circuited.

He’d known Alex for years, probably even better than Alex’s own mother. When Alex was shaken up, it usually meant bad luck for someone else. If Alex was alone, brooding over his drink, it could only lead to one conclusion. “Ellie still won’t talk to you?”
