Ellie broke free from Alex, bent down, and picked up a palm–sized pebble. The next second, she threw it straight at his head.

Alex let out a muffled groan from the pain, but he didn’t take a single step back. He felt something warm trickle down his forehead and raised his hand to wipe it.

When he saw the bright red blood on his hand, his eyes locked onto Ellie’s. His gaze was intense and burning.
