The next morning, Ellie finished her breakfast and got ready for work. Since she lived in the western suburbs, it took her a bit longer to get to the hospital. She had to leave an hour early every day.

But despite that, she felt really happy. Even though her father was gone, her uncle was alive and well, and she now had an

aunt too.

With her brother and her mom, they weren’t just floating around without roots anymore; they finally had a place to call home in this city. She wasn’t scared anymore. She didn’t feel lost

Having them around gave her a strange sense of courage and confidence.

As Ellie stepped outside, she ran into Alex, who was stepping out of his flashy sports car. The sight of Alex in his sharp suit, pulling a gift box from the trunk, made Ellie quickly look away.

Everyone called Alex a player, and she used to think so too. But when she thought about it more closely, he was just too pragmatic. He would go to great lengths for the people he cared about, even if it meant defying the entire world.

The way he treated people he didn’t care for? Well, it was just that he simply didn’t see them as worth his time.

“Ellie! Wait up! Let’s go together!” Nalani called out as she rushed out the door, grabbing Ellie’s arm. When she turned and saw Alex’s fancy car, she frowned. “Why’d you drive that flashy thing?”

Alex instinctively glanced at Ellie. She subtly pulled her arm away, “You guys go ahead. I’ll drive myself.”

After she spoke, Ellie stepped back, making way for Alex’s car to back out. As she watched it slowly move, she turned to head back inside. Just as she reached the entrance of the lobby, there was a loud bang.

Ellie whipped around to see Alex’s sports car had crashed right into the decorative rock formation!
