It wasn’t until Barry and the bodyguards lifted Alex out of the water together that Ellie saw what had been supporting him.

The broken tree root beneath him was jagged and uneven, stained with a dark red.

Her eyes fell on Alex’s face, covered in blood, and Ellie’s tears flowed uncontrollably as she whispered, “Crazy.”

Barry said, “Ms. Thompson, Mr. Warren had already sent someone to Sheahow Church to pick up Ms. Janssen last night. You should come back with us.”

A few hours later, at the Imperial Hospital, Alex was transferred from the emergency room to a VIP ward.

“I’m so sorry, Mrs. Warren. It’s all my fault,” Ellie said.

Carlos‘ condition had improved, and when she heard that Quinlee was sick and her sister was too busy to come back, Ellie decided to go and bring her home.

After all, Quinlee had played a significant role in getting Ryker to agree to the surgery.
