Ellie was completely enveloped by Alex’s presence. She could smell the faint mix of his cool woody scent and alcohol. His warm breath lingered near her ear, making Ellie shrink back.

Through the car window, she saw the group of people wandering nearby but not approaching. Ellie placed her hand back on the car door handle.

“They’re looking for you, aren’t they?” Alex’s voice came from above her, “Your kids are adorable, Dr. Thompson. Are you sure you want to get out?”
