Amber couldn’t contain her anger as she laughed bitterly at Mary’s accusation. She couldn’t believe the audacity of Mary to claim that her mother, Elena, had given birth to another child before her, a supposed sister named Angela. Furiously, she closed the distance between them, her hand swiftly finding its way into Mary’s hair and yanking at the roots.

“How dare you accuse my mother of such a thing?” she exclaimed. “What gives you the right to fabricate a random name and expect me to believe it? How deluded are you?”

Mary winced in pain, her eyes narrowing at Amber’s onslaught. But despite the pain and the anger that welled in

her, she let out a wicked laugh, a wickedness that seemed to seep into her every word. “You asked for information, Amber, and that’s exactly what I’m giving you,” she retorted. “It’s

not my fault that you’re feeling ashamed now that you know that your mother is no saint.”

Amber’s grip tightened on Mary’s hair, her eyes flashing with rage. “You are in no position to judge my mother, Mary. Don’t you dare think you can disrespect her in front of me,” she spat. “You’re the one who took advantage of your supposed friendship with my mother and betrayed her. That’s why mom threw you away, and like the coward you are, you could only come back after she died, just so you could marry her husband. Mary laughed again, a cruel sound that echoed through the room. “That’s exactly it, Amber. I was Elena’s best friend when she was alive. I was her confidant, and since she didn’t know how to shut up, she told me everything, and because of that, I know what I’m talking about,” she confessed. “Elena gave birth to a daughter before you, but she couldn’t bear the thought of raising a child at such a young age, let alone a child that came from a man who forcefully had his way with her. So she gave the baby up for adoption as soon as she was born.”
