The saying goes, "Kids grow up and leave the nest," and Matthew was feeling the truth of that more than ever. He didn't call attention to it, just gave a knowing chuckle. For the first time, he felt a bit awkward in front of his dad.

The heavy rain had given all the staff a surprise break today. With four hours until dinner, everyone started prepping veggies, aiming to whip up a hearty stew to satisfy everyone's cravings. Aubree was standing by, wrapped in a cozy bubble of warmth. Matthew turned to the group, saying, "I'm going to take a break and change into something dry." Picking up on Aubree's cue, she told her assistant, "Why don't you go help with the food prep? I could use a little downtime myself." The assistant, eyeing the array of fresh meats, could barely hold back his excitement, hastily wiping his mouth. "Sure thing, Aubree. I'll let you know when dinner's ready."

Aubree nodded, and Matthew followed her out, keeping a respectful distance. Once she was inside her room, Matthew checked to make sure no one was around before slipping in behind her. She'd left the door unlocked, just for him. As soon as he entered, he locked the door and pulled her into a tight embrace, kissing her deeply. "Aubree, I've missed you."

Though Aubree felt a rush of emotion, she gently pushed him away. "The road up here is so narrow, and with the mountain fog, visibility's terrible. Couldn't you have picked a safer time? It's a sheer drop on one side what if something happened?" Her frustration was fueled by worry, and Matthew, who had been so confident moments before, found himself at a loss, offering only a sheepish, "I missed you."

Seeing his crestfallen look, Aubree couldn't stay mad. His pants were nearly soaked, but luckily he had a change of clothes. He moved closer, hugging her again, the scent of rain and woods clinging to him. Aubree nudged him, "Go shower off."

Matthew quickly peeled off his wet clothes, tossed them aside, and took a fast shower. In no time, he was back, lifting Aubree onto the bed. "We've got four hours until dinner. How about a little us time first?" His muscles flexed under her touch, eyes burning with longing, clearly needing her. Aubree couldn't say no, not with the way he looked at her.
