Melinda was inches away from him, listening to his heartbeat. He’s not as aloof as I thought, but why isn’t he saying anything? He asked me out on this date. Stanley kept quiet all the way, staring ahead solemnly. The air around him seemed to become tenser. Melinda looked outside the window, thinking, If he’s so upset about the date, why did he ask me out?
