Josh turned his head and spotted Selena, her eyes glistening with tears, wearing an expression of quiet endurance and hurt acceptance. This only fueled his anger even more. Everett, aware of Josh's fragile condition, didn't dare fight back. He stood there, taking the brunt of Josh's wrath, while beads of sweat dotted his forehead, and his lips turned a shade paler.

Exhausted from his outburst, Josh panted heavily. Selena helped him sit down, poured him a glass of water, and gently patted his back to help him catch his breath.

After a moment, Josh regained his composure and, holding Selena's hand, watched her with guilt in his eyes. "Selena, I'm sorry you've had to put up with hi's behavior. If I'd known he'd turn out like this, I never would've arranged for you to marry him." Josh had watched Selena grow up, always admiring her beauty, kind nature, and intelligence. He just couldn't fathom why Everett didn't appreciate her.

She glanced at the man standing coldly by the bed, her eyes soft with affection. "I trust Everett. I know he'll do right by me."

Josh's eyes welled up, and he turned to Everett, exasperated. "Did you hear that? She's still defending you, even now. You're lucky to have such a wonderful wife, and you don't even appreciate her. It's like you've lost your mind!"

Was she defending Everett? It seemed more like she was adding fuel to the fire!
