Everett chuckled, a hint of sarcasm in his voice. "Do you even hear yourself right now?"

Selena realized she'd misspoken. But instead of backing down, she shrugged it off. "What I meant was, the AC is cranked up too high, and I'm roasting! Is that so wrong?" Her knack for bending the truth was becoming more impressive by the day.

Everett decided it wasn't worth the hassle to argue. After wrapping up a couple of work calls, he finally stood up and sauntered over, his long strides making it look effortless. The scene was set.

Selena flashed a welcoming smile and patted the couch beside her. "Please, have a seat."

Everett glanced her way but sat down anyway.

Selena eagerly handed him a fork, her voice sweet as honey. "I whipped up these dishes just for you, keeping your preferences in mind. I was up at the crack of dawn cooking. Please, enjoy." Everett took the fork, speared a piece of fish, and took a bite.

Selena watched him intently, her eyes wide with anticipation. "So, how is it?"
