Chapter 470

The call came from the hospital-Josh's condition had taken a turn for the worse, and he'd relapsed yet again. For the past couple of months, his health had been all over the place, with frequent episodes that felt like they could be his last. Everett didn't waste a second.

This time, the surgery dragged on longer than usual. Everett stood alone outside the operating room, his eyes fixed on the bright moon hanging in the night sky. The hallway was eerily quiet and chilly, and he found himself missing Selena more than ever. He remembered that time outside the OR when she sat silently beside him. She didn't need to say a word; just having her there was enough to calm his troubled mind.

As soon as he hung up, he jumped into his car and raced to the hospital.

He'd long realized that his need for Selena went beyond just physical attraction. Her mere presence could soothe his temper and ease his aggression, much like how a little girl once made him feel. He wasn't sure if it was because he hadn't found that girl, and over time, Selena had filled that void. But one thing was for sure he couldn't imagine letting Selena go. He wanted her by his side, always.

Everett pulled out his phone, the screen glowing softly in the dim light. Earlier, around 8 pm, he'd sent Selena a message saying he had an urgent matter and wouldn't be home for dinner but would make it up to her the next day. She'd read it but hadn't replied. Probably ticked off about him canceling plans yet again, he thought.
