Chapter 554

Everett didn't flinch; he just lifted his eyelids and gave her a lazy sidelong glance. Sometimes, silence speaks louder than words. It felt like an unseen force had gripped the lady's throat, stopping her in her tracks. After a moment, she pouted, feeling the air turn dull and uninspiring. Her English was a bit rough, but she gave it a go, "Mr. Everett, ever thought about turning our pretend fling into something real? I mean, look at me I'm gorgeous, and my figure isn't too shabby either. What's not to like?"

Jenny delivered her lines with a flirty wink and a hair flip, pulling out all the stops in her arsenal of allure. Any other guy would've been eating out of her hand by now, lost in a daydream. But Everett, though his eyes rested on her, looked completely unfazed. It was as if he was seeing not a sultry siren, but just another face in the crowd-or even something as mundane as a piece of furniture.

She was both curious and a bit miffed. She'd met plenty of men, and usually, a mere beckon would have them at her feet. Everett was the odd one out; he wasn't interested, even when she practically threw herself at him. It was a major blow to her feminine ego! His lips parted slightly, his voice a soft murmur, "I'd like to know too." He was just as puzzled, wondering what spell Selena had cast over him that made him want no one else. Especially since the girl he used to pine for was just a memory now... Jenny didn't quite catch his mumbling, but it was rare to see Everett looking so lost. Everett, the powerhouse who'd taken the business world by storm in under three years, especially in the American scene where his name was synonymous with success. Everybody wanted to be in his circle, and Jenny admired her father's foresight in spotting his potential.

At the height of his success, able to sway fortunes with a flick of his wrist, this seemed oddly out of place. She watched him with intrigue and finally quipped, "You know what they say, 'Every Jack has his Jill,' Mr. Everett, looks like you've found yours!"

She made no attempt to hide her amusement. After all, being turned down by Everett and having the whole world know about it was a blow. But seeing him flustered gave her a sense of poetic justice.
