Chapter 35 If I Can't See My Son, Then We'll Go See Yours

This was the second time Galatea had been in the passenger seat of his car. She had unintentionally brought up Ambrose Vale earlier, and her emotions were still not fully settled.

Sitting in the car, she kept her gaze fixed outside the window, pretending the world beyond could distract. Alaric caught a brief look at her forlorn expression reflected in the rearview mirror, and for reasons he couldn't fathom why it tugged at his heartstrings.

Shaking off her gloom, she stepped out of the car, strangely eager about the meeting ahead. She was curious about what Alaric's son looked like. Could the boy resemble Harry so much that Alaric indulged in fantasies about Harry being his own child?

"Are you sure your son is at this school?" Galatea had been waiting with Alaric outside the school gates, and even as parents came and went with their children, there was still no sign of his son.

Galatea was beginning to suspect the worst. 'Was Alaric delusional again? Could it be that his son wasn't even at this school?'

Alaric glanced at his watch and decided to call Caspian's teacher directly. The teacher's response unsettled him, "Caspian was picked up by his grandfather. Didn't he inform you?" Caspian's grandfather? Griffon?

"No, he didn't, but thank you for letting me know," Alaric said before ending the call.

He dialed Griffon's number, and the man answered with a hasty apology. "Alaric, I completely forgot to mention I'd take Caspian home. Sorry, it made you take an unnecessary trip-I'm slipping in my old age, meant to call you but it slipped my mind."

"It's okay. May I ask what made you decide to pick up Caspian so suddenly?"

"I missed the boy. We live close to the school, and it seemed a shame for him to board when he could be with family. Let's have him stay over this weekend."

But Alaric couldn't shake a nagging hunch. If Caspian went to stay at the Nash family residence, Orion would be there, right? What if Caspian was provoked, leading to another one of his episodes?

"I understand you miss him, but you know about Caspian's condition. He's finally been doing better lately, and I'm worried seeing Orion might set him off again."
