Although things between Logan and me had completely fallen apart, I was still his assistant, so I had no choice but to continue working as usual. But now, my work involved wrapping things up and preparing to hand over my responsibilities.

I didn’t resign immediately because I wanted to finish the projects I was working on, especially the amusement park project.

This project had been my suggestion. It meant a lot to me.

Before my parents passed away, I had been a happy little girl. My parents doted on me and used to take me to amusement parks across the country every year. Dad had even said that one day, he would build an amusement park just for me. But unfortunately, they died in a car accident, leaving me an orphan.

A year ago, Logan acquired a new plot of land. During a discussion about what to do with it, I suggested building an amusement park. To my surprise, he agreed and entrusted me with the entire project. For that, I had been grateful to him. He had given me the opportunity to fulfill Dad’s dream.

I had even imagined that on the day the amusement park was completed, Logan and I would ride the Ferris wheel together. I would look up at the sky and tell my parents not to worry about me anymore–that I was doing well, that I was loved and cared for.

But now, it seemed that this wish of mine would never come true.

Around noon, while I was organizing my work, Maya scurried over and asked me in a conspiratorial tone, “Elaine, did you get your period last night?”

I glanced at her. “Am I not allowed to?”

“That’s not what I mean.” Maya shook her head vigorously. “I was just wondering why Mr. Mercer’s mood is so awful today. He seems really frustrated.”
