Madam Gray truly likes Maggie? How could that be possible? If it were true, then everything she had said to Madam Gray the day before weighed heavily on Julia’s mind. Reflecting on how Madam Gray had abruptly left midway through their conversation, Julia felt her heart sink once again.

Noticing her pale expression, Franklin asked with concern, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”

Julia quickly composed herself and forced a smile. “No, I’m fine. Really.”

That same day, she informed her family about the unexpected turn of events.

When they learned that Madam Gray actually liked Maggie—and even approved of her becoming her daughter-in-law—both the Green family and the Brown family found it hard to believe.

“Maggie is married and even has a child. Her background is quite ordinary too. Johnny comes from a prominent family and has a successful career. Why would the Gray family ever agree to let them be together? Perhaps President Davis misunderstood?”

“Exactly,” Sophia quickly chimed in. “Or maybe that woman hid her past? Maybe the Gray family doesn’t even know she was married. That would explain it!”

Julia also struggled to understand why the Gray family would approve of Johnny marrying Maggie.

Maybe… Maggie really did conceal her past and deceived the Gray family.

At first, Julia thought that if she couldn’t talk Johnny out of the relationship, they could always take it to court. But if Madam Gray had recorded their conversation from the day before, a lawsuit would no longer be feasible.

Still, if Maggie had hidden the fact that she was previously married and already had a child, there might still be a chance to turn things around.

With this thought in mind, Julia immediately sent someone to probe Madam Gray for information.

Thanks to her connection with Franklin, there were plenty of people eager to curry favor with her. Finding someone to dig for intel proved to be quite simple.
