Chapter 149

Izzy’s face burned as she stormed into her office, her heels clicking against the floor with sharp precision. The sheer frustration coursing through her made it impossible to sit still. She started pacing, her arms crossed tightly over her chest as she tried to process what had just happened.

Anna followed behind, hesitating near the door before carefully placing a cold bottle of water on Izzy’s desk. “Miss… are you alright?”

Izzy barely heard her. The moment she had walked out of the CEO’s office, her mind had been spinning, replaying the conversation that had unfolded just minutes ago.

She could still hear Calen’s sharp and condescending voice.

“You think you should be the one leading this project?” Calen scoffed, leaning forward in his chair. “You’ve done a few successful deals under Weiss Inc., and now you believe you’re some big shot?”

Izzy’s fingers curled into fists at her sides. “I never thought that.”

“Calen enough…” CEO Weiss tried to intervened but Calen didn’t stop. Instead, he let out a sharp breath, shaking his head.

“This is my company,” Calen said. “My family’s company. I am going to inherit Weiss Inc. one day, and yet here you are, acting like you have the right to stand above me.”

Izzy’s jaw clenched. “That’s not what this is about.” She forced herself to keep her voice steady. “I worked hard for this project. It was my proposal. I built it from the ground up. It’s only right that I see it through to completion.”

Calen’s expression darkened. “You built it?” He let out a short laugh, one laced with disbelief. “You worked on it under Weiss Inc. Everything you’ve done was possible because of this company. And yet, you act like it belongs to you?”

Izzy stared at him, unable to believe what she was hearing.

Calen stood abruptly, pushing his chair back with enough force that it nearly hit the wall. “No matter what you do, Izzy, you are still under me. Do you understand that? You act like you’re on equal footing, but you’re not. You never were.”

Her fingers tightened against the fabric of her blazer. “That’s not how I see it.”

“Of course, you don’t,” Calen muttered. “Because you’re arrogant enough to think that being good at your job is enough.” He shook his head. “You’re not the future of this company–I am.”

Izzy forced herself to take a deep breath, to not let him get to her. “Then prove it,” she said, meeting his gaze. “If you’re so convinced that you deserve this position, prove that you can handle it.”
