Chapter 153

Izzy pushed open the door to her office, only to stop short at the sight that greeted her. Calen stood by the window, arms crossed, his gaze fixed on the city skyline outside. The sunlight streaming in cast shadows across his face, accentuating the tension in his posture. The air in the room was thick, almost suffocating. Did he already hear about what she jud did?

Sensing her presense, Calen’s eyes flicked over his shoulder. “You’re late,” he said flatly, the words cutting through the silence. “I’ve been calling you but you- you couldn’t even answer my calls. What if it’s an emergency? What if your presence is needed?”

Izzy arched a brow, ignoring the accusation as she turned to Anna instead. “Didn’t I tell you not to let anyone into my office while I’m gone?” she asked, her tone even.

Anna bit her lip, glancing between them. “I apologize, Miss Rossi, but Mr. Weiss-”

“I am your direct head, Izzy,” Calen cut in smoothly, turning fully to face her. His suit was immaculate as always, not a crease out of place. “I have the right to stay in your office whenever I want.”

Izzy snorted softly, unimpressed. Without sparing him another glance, she stepped forward, placed her bag on the table, and began organizing the scattered files with a calm, practiced efficiency. Since Calen had already claimed her seat behind the desk, she didn’t bother trying to sit. “Why are you here? If you need anything, we can always communicate through emails.”

Calen’s eyes narrowed further, irritation flickering briefly across his face. His fingers drummed once against his arm. He let the silence stretch for a moment longer before speaking.

“You already know why I’m here,” he said, his voice tight. “I need you to debrief all the staff working on the Macau project.”

Izzy didn’t pause in flipping through the stack of papers. “That’s your job,” she replied coolly.

Calen’s jaw clenched. “You were managing them before,” he snapped. “They’ll listen to you. So, you’ll say whatever I tell you to say.”

Izzy’s lips twitched faintly with amusement, but she didn’t look up. “That’s not in my contract,” she said lightly, sliding a folder into place.
