Chapter 202

"...still no confirmation on whether Ms. Rossi has regained consciousness. What we know for certain is that the vehicle carrying Isabella Rossi collided with an eastbound transport truck late Monday morning, resulting in the death of the truck's driver. Authorities have yet to release further information regarding the investigation."

The news anchor shifted to another camera angle. A photo of Izzy flashed on the screen-one of her recent public appearances at the Weiss INC's charity gala. Below it, a banner read; ISABELLA ROSSI IN COMA DRIVER DEAD.

Izzy sat on the couch, a pillow tucked behind her back. Her movements were limited, but her eyes were sharp. She watched the screen for a few more seconds before glancing at Liam.

"Do you think this will work?" she asked.

Liam didn't answer right away. He sliced a piece of apple and then held it up to her. Izzy took a bite and chewed slowly. "Obviously," he said.

She looked at the screen again. "Are you sure those doctors won't say anything?"

Liam picked up another slice. "They're my doctors. They live in the compound." Izzy nodded once.

There was a knock at the door. Liam turned his head.

Mondo opened it and stepped inside. He held a tablet in one hand.

"Mr. Weiss is here. He wants to speak with you.”

Calen's steps were sharp as he entered the living room. He didn't bother sitting, he'd been waiting in another area outside, finally, they allowed him to come in. His eyes immediately locked on Liam.

"Where is she?" he demanded. "This place is impossible to find. Why are you hiding her here, of all places?"

There was anger in his voice, but underneath it was something else-panic. Fear.

Who would have thought Liam would fly Izzy out of San Francisco and bring her all the way to New York, barely hours after the accident? It had taken Calen days to trace her actual location. Days of blocked access, closed doors, and silence.

Liam didn't flinch. He stood near the fireplace, unmoving.

Calen stepped forward. "It took me days to get here. You had no right to take her."

Liam didn't look fazed. "Mr. Weiss," he said calmly, "may I know why you're here instead of busying yourself with your upcoming wedding?"

Calen's expression cracked.
