The car stopped under Jolene’s apartment building. When the door opened, Bradley roughly threw Esther and her groceries out.

Esther found herself on the ground, watching apples and oranges rolling in every direction. She then looked back at Bradley in the car.

Bradley’s silhouette remained in the darkness. Esther couldn’t see his face, but he felt like a ruthless demon from hell. He stayed put, but it seemed like he held her life in his hands.

The car door slammed shut loudly, and it drove away. Esther bent down to collect the scattered items, putting them back in the bags.

The apartment’s concierge rushed over to help. “Madam, let me assist you.”
