Everyone had choices, but Esther had none. She had to trust Bradley’s promise. At least seeing Felix would ease her longing for her child.

“Thank you, sir,” Esther said, taking a deep breath to calm her restlessness. “If you don’t need anything else, may I clear the dishes?”

Bradley didn’t respond, simply rising and heading upstairs.

With her head down, Esther respectfully watched Bradley leave before tackling the dining room and kitchen. She worried he might check for cleanliness, so she wore kitchen gloves and meticulously cleaned, even disassembling the range hood.

She finally caught her breath once she finished in the kitchen and dining room. However, the living room phone rang.
