Chapter 0199

Mary sat on a bench, lost in thought about where she would spend the night. The hotel she’d stayed in for one night had been fine, but it wasn’t a long–term solution. Besides, she didn’t know if anyone might be following her. The best option was to erase all traces of her presence. She decided the name Angela” was no longer safe to use, and neither was “Mary.” From now on, she would be Valerie. She didn’t have any papers, but she also didn’t have anyone left to remember her. The priority now was to find a place to sleep and register under a different name.

After spending most of the day at the cemetery, she also realized she needed a change of clothes–something she hadn’t accounted for. She paid for a week’s stay and, once settled, went back outside. The smell of fresh bread drew her in, and she bought a roll, eating it as she walked.
