Chapter 0216

“Valerie, you’re such an idiot!” she scolded herself. “You’re letting him fool you again! No, no, no—I won’t p through this again, not like with Maximus!”

It felt absurd. A few years ago, she’d been the wife, and it was the assistant having an affair with her husband. Now she was the assistant, and the man she was dating had just rushed to meet an ex. It was clear: she was just a placeholder until Olsen returned.

Her insecurities and fears came flooding back, dragging along painful memories she thought she’d buried. She struggled to catch her breath, feeling utterly defeated. Determined to compose herself, she went to Frederick, handed him the information he’d asked for, and requested to leave early.

Back in Marcus’s office, she grabbed her bag without caring whether he was back or not. Then, without looking back, she left.

On the other hand, when Marcus heard that Olsen had announced herself at reception, he immediately noticed Valerie’s expression. It was clear she knew about the relationship he’d once had with Olsen. But that had been a long time ago, and before any misunderstandings could arise, he decided to go down and meet her. The last time he’d seen Olsen, everything had been resolved. He couldn’t follow her to London, nor would he hold her back from her professional growth. All that had been left was their final farewell. So why was she showing up now? He was mulling it over as he walked past Valerie without looking at her.
